|Every celebrity has a back story and a hometown — a place where they grew up outside of the limelight.
For songstress Taylor Swift, the hometown is Berks County, PA, where she grew up on a Christmas tree farm and then a suburban house in Reading. Although the singer eventually got her start in country music, she didn’t make the 11-hour move to Nashville until age 14, after convincing her parents it was the next step for her career (turns out Swift was right; she secured a record contract shortly after).
Now a little piece of Swift’s back story is up for grabs: Her former home at 78 Grandview Blvd, Reading, PA 19609 is for sale for $799,500. The current owners bought the house in 2007 for $480,000, shortly before Swift made it big. They had no idea who the former tenants were.
Until, of course, fans began showing up at the house.
“People would stop by and take pictures and pose out in the front,” current owner Daniel Mashevsky told Philly.com.
Mashevsky also found some Swift mementos while a restoration of the classic 1927 home was underway, including some childhood toys and old school papers belonging to the star.
The listing fully takes advantage of the residence’s past fame, describing a “bright study” with fireplace where Swift played her guitar. Measuring 5,050 square feet, the home has been “painstakingly restored” inside and out, with baths featuring new fixtures, marble and granite surfaces as well as an updated kitchen with high-end appliances. Each of the 6 bedrooms has been updated, including Swift’s bedroom, which no longer has the carpet or wallpaper that were present while she lived there.
